Arts to Feed Others, Thanksgiving Food Drive (10/26/09)

Some of you have already heard about an intention that I set earlier this year - to see how much food could be collected through the end of the year by performers and artists for those in need. This intention started with collections at my own performances and has grown to include collections at other music events and even has a collection site at Convergence at 1801 N. Quaker Lane, Alexandria VA. As the intention grew, it needed a name - Arts to Feed Others.

Arts to Feed Others will be collecting food to stock Thanksgiving meal baskets for Food for Others from now through Friday November 13. If you'd like to join the voice studio effort to feed folks this Thanksgiving you can bring several (or all!) of the items on the Food for Others list (see below) to your next lesson or drop off food at Convergence.

Gift certificates to Safeway, Giant, Whole Foods or other local grocer are a great way to donate a turkey or ham to a family. If you would like to donate fresh vegetable/fruit items on the list, please bring them the week of November 9. If you have an extra Rubbermaid bin (or two!) at the house, Food for Others could really use them. Feel free to bring your donations right in the bin!

I will be driving our collective studio donations to the Food for Others warehouse on Friday November 13. Let's see how much food we can collect together!!

Food for Others is working hard to serve our community and help the rapidly growing number of families who are in need of food assistance. Families in need of assistance from Food For Others are so limited in their resources to buy food that they are running out of food, reducing the quality of their food, cutting out meat, feeding their children unbalanced meals, or skipping meals so that their children can eat.

Thanks for joining me in giving. And in giving thanks.

~Christina
